Alcatel's New HDTV Radio Carries The Signals Of Today And Tomorrow

Las Vegas, April 6, 1998 -- Alcatel is introducing at NAB '98 its
new family of digital STL (studio-transmitter link) radios. The
Alcatel DVR (digital video radio) family enables broadcasters to
simultaneously transport HDTV and existing analog signals. It
also creates significant cost and ease-of-installation advantages
for broadcasters.

The flexibility of the DVR family is impressive with its ability to
carry 45 Mb/s or 90 Mb/s of digital video over one STL. As part of
the family offering, Alcatel can also carry the HDTV 19 Mb/s
digitized signal in a single 5 MHz-wide channel - allowing
broadcasters to turn-up a digital STL without having to retire
existing analog STL equipment.
