LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998--C-Cube Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ:CUBE), today introduced DVxpress, the industry's first single-chip MPEG-2 encoder/decoder (codec) for nonlinear editing (NLE) applications.

With the first silicon solution to offer Frame-Accurate MPEG Editing (FAME), C-Cube is driving an industry shift to MPEG as the standard editing format in both the professional and prosumer (high-end consumer) video markets.

DVxpress significantly enhances NLE applications improving image quality, storage capacity and reducing overall system costs. These key product advantages have helped C-Cube secure the endorsement of the industry's leading NLE vendors including Pinnacle Systems (Nasdaq: PCLE) and FAST Multimedia.

C-Cube Establishes New Quality Standard For Nonlinear Editing

C-Cube Microsystems today introduced the DVxpress, MPEG-2 encoder/decoder (codec) for the nonlinear editing market, a move that brings C-Cube's leadership in digital video image quality and MPEG image compression to another volume market that is primed for a vastly easier and more cost-effective way to use digital video.

DVxpress is the first silicon solution to deliver FAMET, for frame accurate control of MPEG video. This innovation establishes MPEG's high image quality/high compression as viable for nonlinear editing, dramatically improving image quality and saving on storage costs. This is also the first single chip solution to deliver multiple stream decoding and realtime special effects.

With this introduction, C-Cube has not only integrated into a single chip device what previously required a combination of discrete chips, it has significantly driven down the costs of using such advanced capabilities.
