Worswick;
Great article! And this is only the surface. One anecdote for you. A former AP financial reporter had the balls to ask the project/consortium leader how on earth he expected to pay for the Bakun Dam project. His mistake was that he asked this "dumb" question in a press conference loaded with the oft vilified 'foreign press'.

The man's response went to questioning the reporter's credentials and whether or not he had received an formal education. After this incident the reporter was basically closed out of any further questions at any press conference. He eventually left Malaysia.

And where are they now? The tycoon has just been placed into receivership (legally bankrupt here in Malaysia and the worst of all censorships - no seats on boards of directors etc. etc.) and the reporter is currently financial editor for Rueters regional office in Singapore.

Maybe there is justice.
