Reading data from the multiple tracks also means the drive can spin more slowly, reducing noise and vibration. Zen officials said the 40X drives will realize 6 megabyte-per-second data-transfer rates and 90-MB-per-second seek times. Pricing for the new drives was unavailable at publishing deadline. TrueX technology is not limited to CD-ROM. Zen officials said TrueX can also read CD-recordable, digital video disk, and DVD-ROM. Zen Research holds 10 patents on the core TrueX technology, with another 17 pending or in progress. >>
