Sector rotation blamed for tech weakness .... biz.yahoo.com A spate of earnings warnings from high-profile companies like Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ - news) and Intel Corp. (INTC - news) had already produced an atmosphere of worry about the technology sector's near-term outlook, analysts said. Now, with banks, brokerages and insurance companies all looking like potential merger candidates, short-term investors have found a ready outlet for their cash, they said. ''This market has been marked by strong fund rotations from sector to sector and this deal definitely creates interest in the financial sector,'' said Scott Bleier, chief investment strategist at Prime Charter Ltd. ''It also sucks interest out of other sectors, like the techs.'' One reason for the zero-sum behavior is the low level of cash available in the market. That feature means once a new group comes into favor, it almost always does so at the expense of another, analysts said.
