Tony,
All major UNIX systems will run on the Merced chip. Currently, it is possible to run Unix on Intel chips. However, there is no support from major UNIX vendors, HP-UX runs on PA-RISC, and Solaris runs on Sparc. When the 64-bit Merced comes out, HP will abandon its PA-RISC, and all HP-UX systems will be running no Merced exclusively, and Sun has already made annoucement to have Sloaris support for Merced except that all Sloaris application will have to be recomplied.
