Re: <<Who is ARM?>>

ARM is Advanced Risc Machines Ltd. According to ARM's website (http://www.arm.com): ARM designs, licenses and markets microprocessor intellectual property (IP).
The company's mission is to become the global volume RISC standard in the emerging markets where computing, communications and consumer electronics converge. To maintain and expand this market position, ARM licenses its architecture and implementations worldwide to strategic partners who add value to its technology and marketing effort.
ARM's 32-bit reduced instruction set computer (RISC) technology delivers an optimal balance of high performance, low cost, small die size, and efficient power. Moreover, ARM supports its offerings of RISC processors, peripherals and system-on-a-chip solutions with development support hardware and software, as well as contract design services.
Headquartered in Cambridge, UK, ARM also maintains offices in Maidenhead, UK; Munich, Germany; Seoul, Korea; Tokyo, Japan and in the USA - Austin, TX; Los Gatos, CA and Seattle, WA. >>>>>

Digital Equipment licenses the ARM architecture for use in DEC's StrongARM chip, used in handhelds and other mass-market consumer electronic devices, etc. However, I believe that one of the terms of the DEC-INTC deal is that Intel acquires the manufacturing and other rights to the StrongARM chip. Maybe Intel is catching up in the area of smaller simpler microprocessors after all!
