Company wins Palm trademark cases against Microsoft France, Germany

SAN FRANCISCO (The Red Herring) - 3Com subsidiary Palm Computing has
won trademark infringement cases against Microsoft France and Germany.

Next week, the company plans to make a formal announcement of the
legal victories,
which came from Microsoft's use of the moniker
"PalmPC" for products based on its hand-held PC specification, a name
Palm Computing claimed would confuse consumers.

While it's unclear how the rulings will affect Microsoft's U.S.
marketing plans, sources suggest the software giant will come up with
a new name for the product to sell worldwide. Microsoft and Palm
Computing could not be reached for comment.
