Freer and more open than any others............. Besides the protectionist aren't Clinton and his zipper, it's the Republican parties Buchanan faction that are the most protectionist, with union backed liberals not far behind. Hmmm big business and union's have something in common.

As to the DOW, if not for a merger it would have been negative, like the NASDAQ. Overvalued stocks that can't meet earnings expectations. But wait they will be beat those revised downward earnings, right?? Buy paper just to own it ind then hope it goes up??

Maurice, do you not see some parallels developing between current situtation and 1929 US or 1989 Japan?

Not saying we'd be dumb enough to suffer through a 30s like protracted depression again, but at least a sharp break certainly seems possible.

I'm very long at the moment, but worrying.
