Paul, Did you follow these rules to get so rich? North Carolina - According to an agreement signed Mr. Stanley H. Van Etten, President, IHI, and the State of North Carolina. The State in March 1997, opened an investigation to determine whether IHI was violating th NC Pyramid Schemes Act and the NC Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act.. The State concluded that IHI had violated those acts. IHI denied the conclusions and specifically denied that it had violated the acts cited. The State and IHI, on June 3, 1997, entered into an agreement without admission by any party as to any issue of fact of law. The agreement: 1) Applies to IHI's recruitment and marketing practices in North Carolina: it does not apply to activities outside NC or to NC non-residents. 2) Has a number of restrictions regarding recruitment, purchases, sales, representation of earning figures and engaging in any deceptive or misleading representations. 3) Requires at least 70% of NC sales revenue to be retail sales to persons not connected to IHI. 4) Prohibits IHI from requiring payment or investment as a condition of participation in their program. 5) Requires IHI and IHI's participants to maintain records of all sales in NC and to NC residents in a manner required by the state. 6) Requires IHI to submit certain information to the State on a monthly basis. 7) Requires IHI to modify its sales and promotional materials to reflect a modification of its program as a result of this agreement. 8) Requires IHI for three years to maintain information demonstrating compliance with the requirements of the agreement. 9) Requires IHI to pay the State of NC $100,000.00 to cover the costs of investigation, attorney's fees, and for consumer protection and enforcemnet purposes. 10) Allows the State to file (and IHI agreed) an order in the Wake County Superior Court (separately executed and incorporated into the agreement) requiring IHI to cease IHI sales and recruitment activities in NC.
