Brazil posts federal budget surplus in January

BRASILIA, April 6 (Reuters) - Brazil's federal government
posted a primary budget surplus of 629.9 million reais in
January, equivalent to 0.9 percent of gross domestic product,
the National Treasury said Monday.
That compares with a January 1997 deficit of 986.4 million
reais, equivalent to 1.5 percent of GDP, the treasury said in a
statement.
