to NAQ
interned was nuts today , netsplits every few minutes on the undernet
on top of that almost every stock out of the 40 or so i looked at had data spikes

lousy day , freaking lousy data spikes

nyse ticks are ridiculous once they go below zero u have to become a human calculator to know the negative tick count

hey NAQ is there a way to add customizable indicator capability .. i would like to input a formula to have custom oscillators ,
also why not make alarm have more conditions than just price ... just like the global scan has the indicators, volume etc
another good feature would be custom word search on the news , if i for example want to fish for all headlines that contain a certain word i could put in the word and be notified audio /visually and the stock in the news should go to a global-scan-like setting where there will be a daily /minute/charts and stock profile and the news too
would also be nice to be able to superimpose several stocks and or indices in a same chart

i guess adding those features will take a millennium :))

u asked for ideas...... i think those are good ideas
wonder if others find them useful

Great, thoughtful post, Paul. You make alot of good points, and I agree with most of them. I'm glad to see another perspective, so thanks.

I also use Datek, and will differ with you here. While Datek, when running on all cylinders, is the best online broker in many areas, I absolutely have NO illusions about their ability to integrate streaming quotes into their system anytime soon. In my opinion, they are flying by the seat of their pants now, and have grown way too fast. Customer service is non-existent for the most part, and it takes forever to solve any screw-ups. I doubt they will pull this off without problems on a scale that makes the NAQ problems seem like child's play. I won't use this space to flame them, as I have done enough of that on the thread devoted to them, lest anyone here think I'm just a company kiss-ass, for my earlier comments on NAQ.

I agree that the ideal situation is the integrated package, and there are a few that offer that ideal. I refer to AT Financial, with their recently rolled out ( though offered for awhile) Preferred Technology Trading, Castle Securities with their Market Links, and MB Trading, with their system based on Realtick (thru S/P Comstock I think), and of course, Watley.

We'll just have to wait and see. Good luck to all of us.

Len

Paul:

I join you in commending your post. About 6 months ago I said about the same thing..find a good broker to co-sponsor this software.

Since the data business and the broker business have not really merged to date I suspect that the "online merger" will go very slowly, but surely. At least at the low end (under $10K accounts)

Anyone with an account of $50K SHOULD get a full service trading system including streaming quotes. Basically that is what SOES gives you, but as I understand that is limited to non-NYSE stocks.

I those cases, the number of stocks being watched, especially when L2 is included will mostly likely be severely, limited since one person can absorb only so much.

I see rttrader as a low to middle tier tool for learning and training. If it can integrate with a broker or 2 that would be fine, but the feasibility of that seem limited at this time, unless rrtrader gets the ability to "click to" a web trading site automatically.

I am sure it is possible, but it requires more coding changes. Personally I would like to see options feature first.
