The AMD yield picture and backing has just taken a major turn up and
it might be very bad news for IDTI.

IBM and Intel both have demonstrated 0.18 um technology and plan to role out products in 0.18 in 1999. I didn't say that NSM would be at 0.18 next year or even the year after that, only that it would be needed, from what I have read, from a practical standpoint to use 0.18 to put large DRAM memory structures on chip. If you read my post you will also see that I mentioned that NSM would probably have to acquire the technology or partner with someone who has it.

I agree that it is not necessary for IDTI to have SOC anytime in the near future. However, this will become a large factor in the industry that will greatly effect the lower end of the market. What has been demonstrated so many times in the history of the electronics industry is that what starts out as low-end, volume oriented product often ends up, through improvements in capability and efficiencies of scale, migrating to engulf higher price product categories. Just as Intel will is seeing the migration of the sub $1000 market into the business desktop market, the SOC products can be expected to canabalize the sub $1000 and sub $1200 categories two or three years out.
