Affordable Conversion to Digital Television for Broadcasters Announced
by InnovaCom at NAB

Multiple Product Line Includes DVD "Juke Box" with 422 Hours of Playback

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998--InnovaCom Inc. (OTC/BB: MPEG
- news), Santa Clara, Calif.-based producer of MPEG-2 video compression
products, is introducing the television industry's first complete family
of DTV products, permitting broadcasters low cost conversion to digital
television, at the National Association of Broadcasters Convention here
(Booth M6761 at The Sands).

Also new is a professional broadcast DVD ''Juke Box'' that plays 422
hours of broadcast quality video using up to 200 standard or custom
recorded DVD digital video disks.

Mark C. Koz, InnovaCom's Chairman, said the new TransPEG MPEG-2
Audio/Video Network, which includes a recorder/player, MPEG-2 encoder
and decoder, and video analyzer, provides the broadcast, cable, DBS or
program content provider with the means to convert to digital television
broadcasting for less than the cost of a high end video switcher.

''This system approach allows the broadcaster to convert to DTV in
stages while retaining much of existing equipment such as routers,
cameras, etc. as the transition is made. The cost of upgrading to DTV is
less than if it were the traditional analog upgrade, which means a
station or system can convert to digital working with existing capital
expenditures.

''Further, the digital system lends itself to touch screen virtual
routing, which sends MPEG-2 picture and sound information using our
'SoftPatch'(TM) software to any destination in any video format. The
need for standard video routing equipment, including distribution
amplifiers is eliminated, while frame accurate switching capability is
maintained,'' Koz said.

Professional Broadcast DVD Juke Box

The DVD Juke Box was designed by a team of senior Silicon Valley video
engineers specifically for use by broadcast, cable and DBS system
operators in playing back movies and extended play program material. It
will hold up to 200 standard or custom recorded digital video disks
(DVDs) each playing 133 minutes for a total of 422 hours of program
material.

It offers four or eight simultaneous program streams of either record or
playback.

''Storage cost comparisons are dramatic. With traditional video servers
the cost to store material, based on original equipment expenditures, is
$12,000 to $15,000 per hour. The Juke Box storage cost is only $10-$15
per hour. The contrast is so dramatic because the DVD recordable disks
cost as little as $30 to $40 for a 133-minute recordable disk,'' Koz
said.

''Plus in the Juke Box there are no hard drives subject to crashes as
with traditional servers, merely non-contact laser recording and
playback technology.''

Reloading a 200-disk carousel takes 10 seconds rather than the hour
required to record each hour into a traditional server. The DVD Juke Box
is 22'' high, 19'' wide and 24'' deep and is 19-inch rack mountable.

The DVD Juke Box complements rather than replaces the traditional
server, with the Juke Box being ideal for long material such as movies
and sitcoms while servers are best used for promos and commercial
insertion.

Video quality levels can be adjusted and increased in the encoding and
authoring system to increase the data rates for special super quality
applications. ''However, the broadcast quality picture from standard DVD
playback is superb,'' Koz said.

Shipments of all products will begin in 90 days.
