I believe the market has been so accustomed to such ridiculously low prices for some of these drugs that are off patent that they just don't know what to do at this point in time. It is my understanding that there are other suppliers of the common component on these drugs that Mylan has increased in price. However, these other suppliers are not registered on an approved list with the FDA. The other manufacturers would have to file an amended ANDA with the FDA and get the supplier registered with the FDA. This would take about a year to complete and then what? Would the other manufacturers drastically reduce their price for the product once all is completed? Would the raw material supplier want to go through all the inspections and registration if the product price would go through the floor again and they can't make any money producing the raw material? Are the other products a physician can substitute as good as these old line pharmaceuticals? It is my understanding that the price increases to this extent have never happened before. The last few years have been tough for Mylan and its shareholders. I guess the government, insurance companies and all other concerned parties more or less expected this company and its shareholders to subsidize their programs. They got fat and we just sat. Show me in the book any book where it says a business cannot raise prices. I feel for the consumer who is on any of these medications but they and all other concerned parties have basically had a free ride on our investment over the past few years. The choices at this time seem to be either buy the mylan product or pay another 50% more for the branded product. The way the government operates they will probably want to go with the more expensive branded product. Be prepared for some bad-mouthing, but nobody ever says a thing about the gouging prices the branded companies charge. I for one am holding tighter then ever, and, I believe we have the attention of the people who caused this situation. The only other organization that can continue to operate on a loss is our government.
