I want one of those.

Your post prompted me to look at Kurzweil and I learned that Lernout and Hauspie bought them last year. L and H has the agreement with Microsoft that would seem to make them a Speech Recognition company to bet on. Good rundown on last quarter and 1997 developments:

The proponents of other types of speech recognition technologies I think take the position that the "Hidden Markof" (sp?) technology that L&H/Kurzweil is based on is a dead end and something with more sophistication is going to be necessary before speech recognition becomes widespread. I don't know if this is accurate or not.

L&H looks pretty expensive right now but it seems to have made the right moves. I may take a position just based on my belief that this is going to be a very big field and they appear to be the current market leaders.
