re: People seem to have equated Dell products with high quality (and this is backed up in most PC World magazines for the last 2 years) and these people are generally using your "average" programs, MSOFfice and such. But I'm sure they would want the "latest & greatest" system regardless if they needed it or not.

DELL does have good products.
IMO, PCs are a comodity.
I read a story the other day about a guy that was forced to work on a CPQ with a 180 Mhz processor for a week.
His conclusion, there was really no difference between that and his brand new DELL demention 300 that he had just paid $2,500 for. There was a great deal of buyer remorse in this case.

There are some that want a car with a 500 HP engin, but most people don't want to pay for what they don't need.

GTW last night, I say the same add 4 times for a $1,999 P II 300 W/17" monitor.
Why are prices for these machines coming down so fast ?
Ans: Very few need all this power and very will pay up for the power, so the price comes down and people buy it because it is cheep.
