<<The SIA put a positive spin on the chip market conditions, saying
semiconductor sales were the second highest February total since
1990. "January and February sales are consistent with the seasonal
sales pattern we saw in 1997," said George Scalise, president of the
SIA, based in San Jose, Calif. "Considering this pattern together with
Japans impact on overall sales totals, February numbers are what we
expected.">>

Another twist... The second highest February since 1990.. and consistent with seasonal patterns. I wonder if January and February sales are consistently lower during this time of year (After Christmas slowdown)?

It is also strange that the Commerce Department states such a high increase in revenue and SBN is reporting such a low figure for chips (yet SBN also indicates the second highest February since 1990???).

Do you think there may have been a lot of chips in inventory, similar to PCs and disk drives, that weren't counted by SBN and the chip makers?
