Growth Of 10/100-Mbit/s LAN Card Business
April 06, 1998, TechWeb News

The Fast Ethernet-based LAN card market is experiencing what is
expected to be a fivefold jump in unit sales, from 11.4 million in
1997 to 54.9 million by 2000, according to the Market Intelligence
Center, in Taipei, Taiwan. Coming at the expense of the older
Ethernet technology, the 10/100-Mbit/s LAN business is being
driven by new chip technologies and fierce price competition among
the leaders in the arena, including 3Com Corp. and Intel Corp. In
total, Taiwan is the world's leading manufacturer of LAN cards,
according to the Market Intelligence Center. However, most Taiwan
suppliers do not sell LAN cards under their own logos.
