I agree wholeheartedly with the margin compression in particular although I find the entire article intriguing. HP, IBM, and CPQ are each ferocious competitors in their own niche:
HP in engineering, reliability and customer service
IBM in enterprise-wide computing solutions and installed business base
CPQ in marketing aggressiveness

Although DELL CFO continues to say that they see no deterioration in their expected market conditions; they have filled their public statements with so many weasel words you could drive a truck through them. Plus the bottom line from my own experience; DELL machines are too damn expensive, esp. with Av. Selling price now headed to $400 - $500.
