Ok its 1998, your American, what do you invest in?.
Well, if you watched Cnbc today? They and their 100 guests said ' We can't see bank stocks going anywhere but up'. Now my dad told me that is what they were saying in 1929. Look for Nations Bank to announce the acquisition of Wells Fargo, put every dime you have in bank stocks. Leave this sector alone, until Amat gives guidance that things are getting better. When that will be, I don't have a clue, but I don't think it will happen for 2 to 3 qtrs.

Jacob, ** OT ** you asked Imagine it's 1998, and you are American......What do you invest in? <
Ensco - an oil and gas driller selling at $27.
My ESV decision was mainly based on projected LT EPS growth
of 24% and expected YE99 EPS of $3.19. (24x$3.19=$76+)
Even if EPS is adjusted down later, ESV should still be up
from here. Dec98 EPS for the year is estimated at $2.56, so
PE at current price is <11, well below historic PE, which is
charted at geocities.com

I think ESV meets all your criteria.

Jacob,

I essentially agree with everything you are saying and suggesting, but is comparing the 1980's Japanese market to our late 1990's market fair? The japanese were in the midst of wild real estate speculation and the pe on their exchange was 70.
