While companies like IBM, Sun, Oracle, Netscape, and other advocates of platform-neutral network-centric computing are playing it safe, Microsoft is driving a wedge between them and the only opportunities they may get to make network-centric computing a success. If these NC companies don't realize they can turn their dirty little secret into an advantage soon, their window of opportunity will pass, and sooner than they think.
