Sal, what would happen if all the perma-bulls sold the stock and bought calls? Would that be bullish? Perhaps shortly afterward, 'cause the stock would crash in the process, possibly even to a level where it would be fairly valued based on real fundamentals.

The bulls selling at the present time (for downside protection) increases the supply side, hence helping to push the stock down. By immediately using some of the proceeds to buy calls (still bullish) you are buying on the way down.

If I am a bull I would just buy protective put for the downside risk.

Hi Bob,

Not trying to spin or anything. Seems clear to me, so let me try to explain again:

By selling the stock and going 1:1 into the calls, yes that means I thought it would be weak ahead of earnings (which I said in my posts). But since I'm going to be adding more calls for leverage ahead of earnings (so I will be buying them tomorrow), that means I'm overall bullish.
