Cabbies plan slowdown during NAB convention

Las Vegas cabbies, outraged over what they contend are too many taxis on the streets, planned a work slowdown at lunch time today during the massive National Association of Broadcasters Convention.

Irvine, Calif. -- A new wave of Accelerated Graphics Port-based graphics accelerators is becoming available to resellers and system integrators.

New products from three vendors offer integrators low- to high-end choices

Matrox Graphics Inc.'s Productiva G100 brings the company to the entry-level desktop, said John London, director of distribution sales for Montreal-based Matrox.

With 8 Mbytes of SDRAM, the 1X AGP card offers true color at resolutions up to 1,600 x 1,200. It is upgradable to hardware motion JPEG video-capture, hardware DVD video and TV-out.

At the midlevel is the Stealth II G460 2X AGP accelerator from Diamond Multimedia Systems Inc., San Jose, Calif. Powered by the Intel740 controller, the G460 supports Direct 3D and OpenGL. In 2-D graphics, it supports resolutions up to 1,600 x 1,200, or true color at 1,024 x 768.

Ken Wirt, vice president of corporate marketing for Diamond Multimedia, said the G460 will be available in retail and bulk packaging via distributors later this month. While specific configurations have yet to be set, Wirt said the card will come with up to 8 Mbytes of SGRAM or SDRAM. It is upgradable to PCI DVD and video capture
