Michael, I tend to agree, that the value was/is in the technical aspects of the arrangement, although I don't remember the size of the
investment. Also, since I think we're going to see FDJA's name up in
the lights a lot(even if I can't spell it) and it certainly won't hurt
SIII to be mentioned in same the breath.

As far as sub-$500 PC's......

non-sub-$500 PC's 500,000 sold with a $100-150 Video chip
sub-$500 PC's 500,000,000 sold with a $20-50 Video chip

You got a Quote, Guy?

"Onward", George, and upWARD

Re: S3 investment in Faroudja.

From the recently filed 10K at sec.gov.

On June 30, 1997, the Company sold a total of 526,316 shares of its Common Stock to S3 pursuant to a Stock Purchase Agreement for $4,948,200, net of expenses associated with the transaction. S3 is entitled to certain anti-dilution, registration and other rights as set forth in the Stock Purchase Agreement. As a result of the anti-dilution rights, S3 received an additional 307,018 shares of Common Stock upon completion of the Company's initial public offering in October 1997.

So, S3 has 8.34m shares that are worth $8.2m at 9 7/8 per share. They paid $5m for the shares, so they made $3.2m. S3 paid Faroudja $1.8m in license fees.

Sounds like a good deal to me!
