HP truly seems to be the Rodney Dangerfield of Tech Stocks.

I'll say. Get a nice plug on Wal$treetWeek and the stock falls while the other plug, IBM, goes up.

OTH, this is a good story:

A NET LOSS. In a front-page Wall Street Journal article April 3
("Network Computers Fall Short in Contest Against Cheap PCs"), the
writers open with a story about Federal Express Corp. In fall
1996, the package-delivery company was planning to replace "up to
70,000 aging terminals linked to its mainframe computers" with
stripped-down, no-frills network computers (NCs) from Sun
Microsystems.

But last month, the article says, "FedEx passed over Sun and
selected Hewlett-Packard and Wyse Technology Inc. to replace up to
30,000 of those terminals with conventional PCs, which have plunged
in price, and with a new breed of desktop devices called Windows-
based terminals, which are thinner and cheaper than NCs."

"Conventional PCs and Windows-based terminals are crushing the NC,"
the writers conclude, "along with the threat to the hegemony of
Microsoft and Intel in PCs."

Despite the FedEx example and the tone of the article, Scott
McNealy, Sun Microsystems CEO, ends the piece with a typically
pugnacious quote. "Go ahead and write that the network computer is
dead," he said. "If I can scare everybody else away, we'll own the
market."

Is this dog EVER going to hunt? Well, seriously after TWO
years of no price movement (that is right, check out the two
year chart - HP was at about 58 in 3/96), I find it extremely
frustrating. I guess man CAN live on hope alone, but some
opinions about dates and prices for the remainder of the year
will be of help. I am not interested in vague statements
like "this is a stock to buy and hold". I know nobody has
an accurate crystal ball, but it is good to hear some specific
views out there, if any. Thanks in advance.
