Actually, Michelle, you are in a tough spot. you are competing for top people - and you can not offer any reasonable upside with stock options. The reason I could pay $80K and get great folks was that potential.

You also are carrying the "big company burden" - less, control, not as much fun or as exciting as a smaller start-up. Plus, I don't know what group you are managing, but there is an overall perception that ORCL is not a leading edge company - a decent place to work, maybe, but not like a leading edge start-up. Obviously, there are product areas within ORCL that are leading edge, but I'm talking about an overall perception. I'm not trying to slam you here - just being realistic.

I had several ex-ORCL folks at my last company - boy, they really didn't like it there. Nothing ORCL specific - just big company stuff.

Hey - if you are really good, some of my companies are looking for high level development managers!
