>If that is the reason, what if anything does that say about their core business? I am always a bit
skeptical about companies that do not find enough opportunities in their core business, where they
have the expertise. Are their real synergies with NetEdge, does anyone know?

It definitely extends their core business. Think of NetEdge's products (ATM) as a higher-end, higher-capacity, next-generation type product. And ATM in the WAN (where these products fit) is growing at a furious clip (seen estimates of 50%, though that may be a bit optimistic). So, in short, NetEdge is complementary to LARS, and not outside the core business, the question is execution.
