Apple's stock has slid the last few days. Yeah, so has the whole market. Especially the techs. A slide in the ten days before Q earnings announcement statistically speaking is correlated with bad news. So, Apple has bad earnings is causing Intel, Gateway, Dell, Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo, etc etc to fall. Cool! I didn't think Apple had such market power!

Perhaps my source is correct in saying that last Q retail sales at Computerware--a major Mac vendor--were flat as compared with one year ago Last I knew flat over last year beat expectations, and can be quite profitable. Apple has been in a decline for the last 2 years, in case you didn't notice. suggesting that Apple had a disappointing quarter and is likely to report a loss.

Gee, I seem to remember some restructuring going on with the company. They can now be profitable with smaller sales. Anyone else remember that, or am I imagining it?

Thanks for playing.

Almost everything I own or follow, with the exception of TRV, has slid in the last few days. Even LU and MSFT, after being bright spots so long, are just grist for the mill today and yesterday. Perhaps this reflects a general expectation of bad news in the techs this quarter?

"Apple's stock has slid the last few days. A slide in the ten days before Q earnings announcement statistically speaking is correlated with bad news."

Don't you think the dominate factor responsible for the slide in the last few days was due to the weakness in the tech sector? MSFT news yesterday...MOT today...A few weeks ago it was INTC, CPQ...then MU..the there was ADBE. Did I miss anything else?

Revenue for Q2 97 was 1601 million!! Hehe...if sales were flat compare to last year Apple should turn in excellent profit. Earnings should be pretty decent if margin is slightly improved from Q1 and revenue comes in at 1420 mil or higher.

Apple is almost certain to make a profit.. Most of the investors here believe that. The question is how much the profit will be. Consensus estimate currently has AAPL Q2 at 0.15. I think posting a loss is unthinkable.

Bernard,

No one could be less happy than about the decline in the stock price. However, I have (too) many stocks in my portfolio and almost every one declined sgnificantly, especially today. As usual, I think Phil called it yesterday by saying that Apple is running with the pack. Darn it.

I bought more Apple leaps today, fretted over my April calls, and agonized over my entire portfolio, with the exception of my single short position and some small put options. It was a tough day.

Thanks,Eric and Rhet.
