PAL, What is Distribution?

It is one criteria used by William O'Neal and his Investors' Business Daily: Accumulation/Distribution. It is a propriety measure whether the stock is being Accumulated or Distributed (sold) by financial institutions. The grade ranges from A (accumulation) to E (Distribution). According to William O'Neal, you want to buy stock that is being accumulated. Currently the internet stocks have "A" ratings, meaning being accumulated. You can pick up IBD or get two weeks free trial (Go to Yahoo site, it has a banner offering free IBD).

The heavy volumes (over 2 1/2 times daily volume) of Yahoo on a down day seem to indicate that distribution is taking place. Additionally, if you watch the size of Bid and Ask, it appears there are more selling than buying by MM's.

Another good candidate for shorting is Preview Travel (PTVL). Their marketing expense (something like $ 5M payable to AOL) is much higher than their revenues, and the only thing they can stay afloat is to issue more stocks.
