By law they must ship within 72 hours of posting a charge, $10,000 fine for each violation. So they can charge a little ahead of shipment but it is a lot safer to tie the charge to the shipping documents. authorizations can be as much as 7 days ahead of the actual charge, the reason being that they automatically expire if not followed by the charge. Cash prepay can be as much as 30 days ahead of shipment, it is an 'implied contract'.
