The new DV-MPEG SD7000 is designed forbroadcast environments, specifically for
contribution transmission, remote specialevents and news coverage applications.
With a codec at a remote location and one
at a central office or broadcast facility, the
compressed video signal can be carried over
a SONET/SDH or ATM backbone, delivering
contribution quality back to the broadcastfacility for further editing and final
distribution. The DV-MPEG SD7000 waslaunched today at the National Association
of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in LasVegas, April 6-9, Booth No.T5551.
"With this new product Nortel will now offer
broadcasters a high-quality video codecwhich will enable them to bridge the gap
between traditional TV broadcasting andefficient SONET/SDH or ATM-based
transport," said Richard Romagnino, general
manager, Video Networks, Nortel. "The end
result is a high quality image delivered via an
efficient feature-rich video network."
Nortel's DV-MPEG SD7000 will have a unique
feature set to address the specific needs ofthe broadcasting industry including
four-audio-channel support, adaptive combfiltering, DVB compliance, selectable
4:2:0/4:2:2 operation, and more. As with all of Nortel's DV-MPEG products, the
DV-MPEG SD7000 is compatible and fullyadaptable with other networking products,
including Nortel's Digital Video Access Mux(DV-Access Mux), Nortel's S/DMS
TransportNode family, AccessNode, and itsDigital Video Network (DVN) application
software. The codec is scheduled to becommercially available worldwide by
mid-1999.
