George. It looks like NBC is going lower resolution/progressive scan.............................

wired.com

9:51am 7.Apr.98.PDT
NBC has become the third major broadcaster to announce its plans to offer digital television transmission. The Peacock network said today at the National Association of Broadcasters convention that it would initially offer the progressive scanning format, slowly moving to the higher-resolution interlaced signal for its 13 owned stations and various affiliates.

...While television sets will be built for viewing a variety of formats, some observers fear that a mix of progressive and interlaced formats could create huge problems.

Re: Compaq and Chromatic

So much for those "Compaq" words AlexB let slip out in Jan.
I truly think this dude is a loose cannon at this point. Every time in the last year he's spoken out,,, it has been thrown back at him, now I'm throwing the CPQ words back at him. <Splat!>

From what I gather, EVERYONE loves his Vision and Ideas, but when it comes to dealing with the public/media/finacial community he don't score too well in most peoples books.

Alex, some tactical words of advice:
Maybe try a new hair dew or colour?
Seems to be working for some NHL goalies lately..
...and you've been facing a LOT of shots, NO??

Don't take it too hard though "brotha Alex"....we dig ya,
you just need some more seasoning in the ring/rink.

Fred's CEO survival guide:
1)Play the Game, you can't change the rules,....
2)Don't stick your neck out, Lorrana Bobit clones are everywhere in this biz (unless you're that Bill guy from Seattle!)
3)You're only as good as you last "BIG deal".
4)The score card is the market price of your stock.

*Herb must be too busy adjusting to his new venture...but I'll bet he has something to say soon, he's been too quiet...*

> Compaq invests in Chromatics. Mpact3....

I find it kind of interesting that the Mpact3 now
contains a "DVD engine". After the initial hype
that a mediaprocessor could do it all in software,
there seems to be a slow admission that this is
less true in reality - the Mpact2 added a 3-D
pipeline, now the Mpact3 adds a DVD pipeline.

Given that Chromatic is refocusing their high
end on 3D and DVD, they are starting to look
more and more like a graphics accelerator,
and less and less like a mediaprocessor :)
