Indeed, it is the typical bureaucratic logic...

If they are to charge a "fee/tax" due to the telephone connection, how does that square with the pledge of not taxing the Internet for at least 5 years that I believe the prez, vowed not to? The memory chip must be "burned out"

Would then a "satellite connection" (once they resolve the current "uplink, via telephone" part), be "exempt" of such charge?...

Maybe the real pusher of this fee/tax is ever evil Mr. Gates and its Teledesic, satellite connection?

What about forming a network of common "connecting point(s) (Gateway)" (off-shore of course), to which you would connect via "private network"/satelite, and from that point you would surf the net to your heart's content, skirting the US telephone system, (hence the fees).

No doubt then they will think of "space access fee" (don't laugh it may already be in the books...)
