re: Jim, they don't, but they have a lot to do with understanding what is important for corporate purchasers. When you pronounce that a P180 or whatever obsolete architecture you care to dredge up is just as acceptable as the latest server technology you are basing that on ignorance. So I suggest that you either do your homework and then pay close attention to people who know, like Meathead, or drop those kinds of arguments -- you're way out of your league.

Paul,
I am a stock guy.
If non of that is important to the stock price, then why even mention it.
I am not compairing a 180 to a $10,000 server. The guy I read said he had a Dell demention xps 300. That is not a server, and the guy conld not tell a difference between the two doing normal basic computing tasks.

Meathead said that Speed was only part of the Pie.
Evidently this guy now knows that he paid for a lot of horsepower that won't make things go any faster.
Meathead said that a business computer has a lot of that stuff I don't know about.
Well for $900, IBM has a nice Business PC. I think if this guy I origionaly refered to had to buy a bunch of PCs for basic normal computing, that $900 deal might be atractive as he know knows that for basic normal computing tasks, a xps 300 is not needed.

Guys, Hardware is way ahead of software. This is the first time in the life of the PC that that has happened. It is having a profound impact on the industry. The evidence is out there, INTC, CPQ, IBM. It is only a matter of time before DELL becomes one of the casualties.

Dells model is great. their products are great. their management is great. But that can not stop what is happening industry wide. INTC has great management, but that can't help them now.

I am feeling a little cocky after a couple of good days, Wed should be a good day for DELL in anticipation of the meeting. What will be said there, I don't know any more than you do. So we will see then.

Last,
While I don't know a lot about the under the hood technology in a PC, I do know what precieved and actual needs are, and what they cost.
I don't think there is a basic killer app that will need more power than a P 200 for the next 18 months. Yea the guy designing the space shuttle needs more, but I am talking about the other 80% of the market. DELL can't make the numbers expected off of the 20% at the high end alone. They don't have the capacity to build enough machines at the low end to make the number of $$ expected.

Soon investors will realize this and move on to the next great stock story. In days..weeks...months I don't know how long. MOTs forcast of more weakness is not a good omen of things to come though.

To all,
Good night.
Jim
