Walter, Another thing that isn't clear to me is the dosing. Did they treat some at 60mg and some at 100mg, with some coming in between??? I assume they at least did a group at 60 and another at 100. Why didn't they also give response rates by group? squetch

Walter, I'm not sure who the "non-protocol" patients are, but it could be that they have not yet been treated long enough. Thus, if the protocol calls for 12 weeks of treatment, some patients may be included that have only been treated for 6 weeks so far and the responders are just the "immediate" responders and with time the final data for all of the patients could approximate the protocol-defined results, which are very impressive.

Another possibility is that the non-protocol patients had other complications due to AIDS and modified their dosing schedule for some reason.

Walter, I think intent-to-treat means inclusion of all in trial, but I could be wrong. squetch

INTENTION-TO-TREAT ANALYSES FOR INCOMPLETE REPEATED-MEASURES DATA

HOGAN-JW, LAIRD-NM

Abstract

In a randomized longitudinal clinical trial designed to evaluate two or more rival treatments, an intent-to-treat analysis requires inclusion of all randomized patients, regardless of whether they remain on protocol for the duration of the study...
