IBM readying E-commerce products
By Michael Kanellos March 31, 1998

Armonk, N.Y. -- IBM Corp.'s Internet Division will release a series of electronic-commerce products later this year aimed squarely at what could become one the hottest markets in this arena-publishing.

IBM will introduce an information-commerce server in the third quarter
targeted specifically at the sale and publication of intellectual property over the Internet, said Jeff Crigler, vice president of IBM's Internet Information Technologies unit in Falls Church, Va.

IBM also will team with Wave Systems Corp., Lee, Mass., to market a
publishing-commerce bundle complete with hardware and software.

During the same period, IBM will release components based on its
Cryptolope and DataBolt technologies as separate products, he added. Beta versions will appear in the second quarter.

Intellectual property is one of the shining hopes of the electronic-commerce market, partially because intellectual property is one of the few products that can be bought and delivered electronically. Open Market Inc., Cambridge, Mass., purchased Folio Corp. as part of an effort to capitalize on this market.

COMENT: I thought IBM had dumped Cyptolope technology?
