My experience: Datek is the best in price, accuracy, promptness.
Ameritrade computer software SUCKS, same to National Discount Brokers (yesterday bot 2 x3K sigm at 3.5, today none in my account and no buying power, yes I overbought but can xfer $ in 3 days, but those guys stole me twice: first remove 3k bot at 3.5 and so they can sell at 1k gain couple minutes later, second they sold another 3k at 3 3/4 w/o my knowledge, now I have to wait 24hours for them to resolve and I lost coupple of thousands gain then)
I will get out of NDB as well as Ameritrade. On a hot day like yesterday those will make you lose your profitable gain.

<<which brokerages may be good for opening a
rollover IRA account...., flexibility in the
types of trades allowed, margin allowed >>

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I understood that IRA funds can only be held in a cash account and not a margin account, thus eliminating the possibility of shorting and option trading.
