I talked to my wife about this last night. She is much more knowledgeable on theological issues than I and I defer to her on those matters. She was not offended by Clinton taking Communion, although she, as I, was surprised that the Catholic Church in Africa would have looser restrictions than the rest of the world on non-Catholics taking Communion.

What did bother her was the attack on Cardinal O'Connor's doctrinal knowledge. He is probably the most influential Catholic leader in the country and to openly question his knowledge, and infer that the President knew more about these things, was highly offensive. And it was not necessary.
