SGI :13:14.05 SGI UP 1/2 - 14 13/16, the day's high up 1 point in 2 days!!! There seems to be a lot of buying and demand for this stock all day.

As to whether the Alpha is a threat to Merced and SGI, it seems like despite all the hype it should not be any threat on a performance basis. My experience (and that of some other people around my department) with Alpha-based linux boxes has been rather disappointing. However, notice that we did buy a few of them instead of something else like SGIs, thinking "wow, that's a lot of bang for the buck." So that large mhz number does sell boxes, even if they are a disappointment later on. - George
