Thanks for the response, Mr. Jolt:

Your comments are consistent with my understanding of data warehousing. My understanding is that it encompasses a particular way of storing data so that each departmental user in an organization may organize & store corporate data in a way that suits its particular needs & applications.

For example, the same data which finance and accounting compiles which is stored along financial & accounting criteria, may be reorganized & compiled by sales & marketing along its own criteria & application uses; which may also be re-compiled by another department such as human resources or legal, on so on. In turn data originally compiled by sales & marketing may be re-compiled by finance & accounting for its own use, and similarly by human resources. When each original compiler updates the database, the other re-compiled databases are automatically updated as well.

Data marts I less knowledgeable about, but have access to resources to become familiar. What appears more interesting to me is data mining? I think this is an exciting area database application.

Just saw your post as I first posted this message. Thank you very much for posting this info. I, & I think the thread, appreciate the posting of factual information rather than relying upon the responses of some individual with an obvious handicap with written communication skills & objective thought. Thanks again.
