STV Group, Incorporated provides engineering and architectural consulting and design services on a variety of projects for the public and private sectors. For the three months ended 12/31/97, revenues increased 6% to $24.1M. Net income increased from $158K to $412K. Results reflect demand for the firm's work, primarily in the transportation area. Results also reflect lower interest expense due to improved cash receipts.

STV Group, Inc. Reports Highest Earnings in 10 Years For First Quarter of Fiscal 1998

DOUGLASSVILLE, Pa., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- STV Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: STVI - news), consulting engineers, architects, planners, scientists and construction managers, today reported net income of $412,000 on total revenues of $24,135,000 for its first quarter of fiscal 1998, which ended December 31, 1997. In fiscal 1997, the firm reported net income from operations of $158,000 in the first quarter on total revenues of $22,736,000.

Net diluted earnings per common share were 22 cents for the first quarter of fiscal 1998 as compared to 8 cents for the first quarter of fiscal 1997.

Michael Haratunian, STV chairman and chief executive officer, described the results as the company's best first-quarter performance in the last 10 years. He noted a substantial improvement in profitability, with the firm's work on the Amtrak's Northeast Corridor high-speed rail project contributing substantially to this effect. This contract and similar projects in the transportation infrastructure market will continue through 1999.
