The Intel only box makers have been participating in the sub $1000 market with the good 'ole PentiumMMX...which BTW could run at 333 MHz on .25u. Paul will probably correct me but this chip probably costs Intel under $35. Celeron more like $50.
With no cache the best thing the Celery has going for it is the FPU...the same thing the Pentium II has going for it other than high MHz. So, will the Celery cannibalize the Pentium II as some Gamesters buy it instead? I'd say it either flops or the more successful it is, the more it cannibalizes the Pentium II. It also is a statement that
higher MHZ doesn't mean higher performance. Something Intel has lived on for a while now with the Pentium II. This is very dangerous for Intel IMHO.
Celery is just an all out move to exit Socket 7. A reaction to AMD and Cyrix. Seems like Intel is starting to "react" more than "act" lately. If that wasn't the case then Intel would lower the price on the Pentium II and save the PentiumMMX for the Sub$1000 market.

James
simple question: if all things are equal and you would be on a limited budget would you personally buy Celeron based system that would have performance and price disadvantage as compare to amd and nsm or go with amd or cyrx?
