Mazman:

Thanks for the link, though brief, what Red Herring has to write about DELL,I thought, is very apt and appropriate, allow me to copy it here for those who might not have seen it yet.

Piper Jaffray initiated coverage of Dell Computer (DELL) with a Strong Buy.Top-notch analyst Ashok Kumar told us he started coverage of Dell with such a strong rating because of the company's incredibly solid performance coming into the first half of this year. "Units are up 15 percent sequentially quarter over quarter, market share which was 6 percent in Q4 1997 will ramp to 8 percent by the end of the first half of 1998, and just based on earnings growth this year alone, there is something left in the stock," noted Mr. Kumar.

Such bullishness on Dell took us by surprise. Hadn't the stock already run too far, too fast? Mr. Kumar had a great response: "If people are looking to pick up a Lexus at a Toyota price, that is clearly not going to happen. But the beauty of Dell is that they have a high attached rate of monitors and peripherals and 90 percent of their sell-through is in the corporate market. Buying Compaq [instead] would be like walking through a minefield at night wearing dark glasses." Well, we asked for it.
