ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1998--

Three Day Event Brings Together Top Network Service Provider

Executives to Discuss Current Industry Trends and Issues

Ascend Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASND) announced today that Reed Hundt will address officials at its 1998 North American Telecommunications Executive Forum. Hundt, former Federal Communications Commission Chairman, has advocated competition in the telecommunication industry specifically among telephony, wire, satellite, cable, broadcast, and wireless communications.

The historic Telecommunications Act of 1996 written by the FCC under Hundt's leadership has increased opportunities for all businesses involved in the communications sector, as well as brought greater choice to consumers.

"Ascend is excited to bring together these Network Service Provider (NSP) executives for our first annual form," said Bob Machlin, Vice President of Marketing. "We have invited Reed Hundt to speak because he represents the kind of vision and leadership that Ascend itself has become known for. We expect our NSP customers will benefit from Hundt's views and from the other informative sessions we have put together for this conference."

The Ascend North America Telecommunication Executive Forum will take place April 19th through the 21st at the LaQuinta Resort in Palm Springs, California. Ascend has invited senior level executives from top communication services companies to attend. The forum, including presentations and panel discussions, is designed to bring together NSP executives and Ascend's senior management to discuss pressing topics and trends in the telecom industry.

Are you planning to sell the puts or buy the puts?

What do you see the price range for ASND for the next 60 days?

I assume the earnings will be released tomorrow - when?
during the market
or
after the market closes?
