An Asian tourist who wishes to remain anonymous, won $8.7 million early this morning and walked away with a check for a quarter of a million dollars, the first of 25 annual installments. This is Nevada's sixth Megabucks strike of 2000 and the fifth since the world record $35 million jackpot at the Desert Inn in late January. So far for the year, the statewide total for Megabucks is approaching $70 million. Pat Patterson, director of slot operations for the Hilton, said that the winner had only played for a few minutes when the trio of Megabucks logos lined up. "This is the third time in the last decade that Megabucks has hit at the Hilton and it is always very exciting for us. It's always a thrill when a player walks away a millionaire," Patterson said. Nevada Megabucks has produced 54 major winners in its 13-year history. The Nevada Megabucks MegaJackpot can be won at one of 157 Nevada casinos that have Megabucks machines. Anytime the slot game is played at one of those casinos, the total continues to climb until it is won. The top prize is won with a 3-coin $1 bet. Megabucks is one of 16 statewide MegaJackpot system developed by IGT. The game builds from a base amount of $7 million. All IGT MegaJackpots are paid in annual installments upon verification, except Elvis, Slotopoly, The Addams Family and Party Time, which are paid in their entirety upon verification.
