Goldsnow - People forget what the world was like before Reagan. The Soviets were taking Afghanistan, running wild in Africa, fomenting war and revolution in Latin America. Soviets were moving tanks and MIG's into Nicaragua. And all Carter could think to do was apologize to the Soviets for what a bunch of immoral people we were in the West. There was widespread fear in the world that the West was LOSING the cold war, that it no longer believed in itself. *Why in hell does everyone think gold went to over $800 !!!* Reagan was the only man with the moral courage to fight back against totalitarianism. He sent them a message they understood. He fought a campaign of guerilla warfare against the Soviets, and he won. I will catch hell for this, but Reagan stands tall in my mind. He had the moral character to lead the world. And he loved his wife, too,
