Compaq signs up Mpact, Inex

The bundling agreement with Compaq will bring in licensing and transaction revenue for Mpact, analysts said.

The product, ClubWeb, helps small and medium-sized businesses set up Internet commerce systems. It incorporates a server from Compaq with Mpact's BuyWay payment-processing system and Inex's store-front Internet software, both designed for Microsoft's NT operating system.

Mpact will receive $200 to $300 a server, as well as 50› for each transaction conducted on its system.

MPACT signs licensing deal with Compaq

TORONTO - MPACT Immedia Corp. of Montreal said it licensed software to
Compaq Computer Corp. that will enable Compaq to boost sales to customers
who want to do business over the Internet.

Compaq will use its Mpact's BuyWay secure-payment software and Microsoft
Corp.'s electronic-commerce server software in powerful central computers called
servers, which are sold to Internet-access providers and merchants looking to
protect consumers' credit-card numbers.

The agreement could boost Mpact's annual revenue by $20 million if Compaq, the
world's largest computer-maker, reaches its annual target of selling 100,000
servers that include Internet software. Mpact doesn't expect any revenue from the
agreement for a couple of quarters.

Mpact will receive a licensing fee of $200 to $300 U.S. from Compaq for every
server that includes its software, said Mpact spokesman John Davidson. Mpact
will get $30 U.S. when an Internet-access company that buys a Compaq server
sells an electronic-payment system to a merchant.
