>>I'll bet no one even noticed your remarkable double play!

It was one of those phantom double plays made famous by Julian Javier, one of my favorite Cardinals and baseball names of all time. His son Stanley plays for the Giants.

Cardinals' broadcaster Mike Shannon, a teammate of Javier's on those great Cardinals' teams of the '60s, tells a great story of Javier being picked off second base in a game against Houston. The Astros' shortstop was Julio Gotay, a fellow Latin American, and he told Javier something that caused him to jump 3 feet in the air, at which time Gotay tagged him out. When Javier came back to the dugout, his face was "white as a sheet". When his teammates asked him what happened, all Javier could say was "No mas! No mas! Voodoo, man! Voodoo!"

My grandmother knew Javier when he played here and he was a great guy. His other son is an MD in town. Maybe at Barnes, though I'm not sure.
