Miljenko, {{off topic}} You are probably a very good organic scientist, and I do not question that. What concerns me is that you try to mislead others by stating that things can't be done with reckless abandon. Just because you have a Ph.D doesn't mean you know everything. You should know that science is a never ending learning process. Also you to try and shove your opinion down other peoples throats without proof. As a scientist you should know that in itself is a risky game. It is ok for us to make mistakes as long as we don't respond with encores, right? But to do that we have to know that we made the mistake first...knowing is half the battle. I do know that fighting diseases is a never ending battle (@ least for a while) due to all of the different mutations. I know that testing drugs in mice is different than in humans (I read the articles in Science Nov 1997). I am not saying that my examples are the cure all...because they are not. What I am trying to say is look how far science has come in the last 10 years (or less), and that nobody can predict the future. Taking a stand that it can't be done in 20 yrs is a very bold statement considering all of the advances that have been made recently. I'm sure that in the 50's people only dreamed of walking on the moon...but in the 60's it became a reality. Just for your own info I have volunteered @ a hospital and have done a lot of community service in the past. I feel that most people in science are dreamers...I sure you are too...you dream that your project will work, am I correct? You dream to retire wealthy and happy, correct? If we don't dream then what is the driving force behind our actions? I'm not trying to pick a fight with you, I'm just keeping you in check...as for I'm sure that you know things that I don't. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, we just don't have to discourage them from stating it (actually we should in some cases...lol).As for the next generation...well what can I say... I'm sure that your parents thought the same way...just like I will...when I'm in the same position. No hard feelings, Where'd He Go? PS: I don't know Dr. Olah. PPS: No offense, but please use spell check.
